Happy Tuesday, Friends! On today’s blog, I’ll be sharing with you a set of “Dimensional & Colorful” cards made using Die Cut Shapes, Chipboard Stickers, Sequins, Die, Stamp and the Patterned Paper Pad included in September-2020 “Whimsical Forest” Card Kit of the Month by Spellbinders. So, without further ado let’s jump right into the step by step on how I’ve created them ↓
As usual with every Spellbinders card kit, I started by selecting the die cut shapes and patterned paper sheets that I was going to use to create each card so therefore, I trimmed the edges off from one of the patterned papers a bit smaller than the card base, and I adhered the backing of it with the double-sided tape (included in the kit) to one of the A2 textured card bases which is also included in the kit.
Once, I had the card base ready I started the layering for the card so therefore, I lined up the frame die included in the kit over a piece of Navy cardstock (also included in the kit) and, as soon as I had them line up I ran them through the Platinum 6 Die Cutting and Embossing Machine. Thus, after I had the die-cutting frame done, I went ahead to glue it down with liquid glue in the middle of the card panel. Then, I went ahead to keep gluing with liquid glue and foam mounting die-cut shapes, a puffy sticker and sequins until I’ve had finished the focal point for the card.
For the second example, I created a back to school butterfly vibe card so therefore, I trimmed down one of the patterned paper to H 5.0’’ X W 3-3/4’’ inches and I adhered it down with double-sided tape to one of the textured card bases.
Therefore, once I had the card base ready, I started the assembling so, to do that I mounted with craft foam and double-sided tape a die cut shape tag in the center of the card. Then, I glued down with liquid glue a few die cut shapes and last but not least, I glued down with liquid glue a few sequins to add a touch of shine. And finally, to finish the card off I glued down to the upper side of the tag a tied bow along with a wooden button which I’ve had previously created with extra embellishments from my stash.
For the third example, I made a very lovely and colorful rainbow card so therefore, I started by trimming down a navy card panel from one of the cardstock sheet included in the kit. Once, I had the card panel trim down, I added an extra touch of distress look by inking it up using Faded Jeans distress oxide ink.
Once, I had the inking done, I added a few splatters using water and white acrylic paint. Thus, after the splattering was completely dry, I added texture to the card panel following the directions of dry embossing from the die-cutting machine and Bright Days Embossing Folder. Lastly, after I’ve had finishing adding the texture to the card panel, I trimmed the edges down and I adhered it down with double-sided tape to one of the textured card bases. And, finally to finish the card off I mounted a few die cut shapes along with dimensional stickers and sequins for an extra touch of shine.
For the fourth example, I created a floral framed card so therefore, I trimmed down one of the patterned papers and I adhered the backing of it with double-sided tape to one of the textured card bases. Once, I had that step done, I selected a few floral die cut shapes and I glued some of them down with liquid glue while others with foam mounting tape around the whole card panel to create dimension and a complete floral frame.
Therefore, once I’ve had the floral frame complete, I finished the card off by adhering down (as shown above) puffy word stickers to create the sentiment. Last but not least, I went ahead to adhere down a puffy heart and the cute gnome. And, as a finishing touch, I added glossy accent to the center of each die cut shape flower to add a touch of dimension and shine.
For the fifth example, I created a shaker card so therefore, I trimmed down one of the patterned paper a bit smaller than the card base and once I had that step done, I adhered the backing of it with double-sided tape to one of the textured card bases. Then, I lined up over another patterned paper the third-to-last die from Nestabilities Candlewick Rectangles Etched Dies set, and once both were lined up, I ran them through the die-cut machine to die-cut a frame with a window out of the card panel.
Moving along, after I’ve had created the frame with the window, I adhered with strong double-sided tape a large piece of acetate and once I had that step done, I went ahead to add pieces of foam mounting tape around the backing of the frame. Soon after I had the mounting tape, I added sequins to the card panel and I peel off the backing of the mounting tape and last but not least, I mounted the framed panel to seal the shaker window. And, finally to finish the card off I adhered down 2 puffy word stickers to create the sentiment as well as one of chipboard cute gnome sticker.
For the sixth and last example, I decided to create a whimsical forest watercolor card using the stamp and die included in the kit so therefore, I started by stamping a few images from the stamp with no-line ink. Once, I’ve had finished the stamping, I went ahead to get each image water-colored with a color palette which I’ve had previously mixed using Brown, Burgundy Red and Green hues.
Moving on, after I’ve gotten each image water-colored, I went ahead to set them aside to give them time to dry. Thus, in the meanwhile I went ahead to create the background for the card panel.
For the card panel, I used a combination of Blue hues to create the sky and a combination of Brown hues to create the ground. Therefore, once I’ve had finished water-coloring the card panel, I went ahead to set it aside so the painting could air dry. Meanwhile, I came back to the water-colored images and once I was completely sure that they were dry, I lined up over each of them their coordinated die and I ran them through the die-cut machine to die-cut them out of the card panel.
Lastly, after the water-coloring from the card panel was completely dry I trimmed the edges down from it and I adhered the backing of it with double-sided tape to one of the textured card bases. Then, I carefully glued down with liquid glue some of the water-colored images while others with square dimensional adhesives (as shown in the image above) to create dimension and to create the whimsical forest look. Last but not least to finish the card off, I mounted the dimensional hello and a sub-sentiment which I’ve had previously created by stamping and heat embossing using the stamp & die included in the kit. Then, as a finishing touch I glued down with liquid glue a few sequins as well as a few little blue jewels for an extra touch of sparkle!!!
