Spellbinders Bibi's Butterflies Collection┃Sympathy Inspiration Cards

Happy Wednesday, Friends! On today’s blog, I’d like to share with you a very delicate and dimensional set of “Sympathy” cards made with a butterfly look showcasing the latest Bibi’s Butterflies Collection by Spellbinders which includes: Butterfly Card Creator Etched Dies, Pop-Up Butterfly Etched Dies, Delicate Butterflies Etched Dies, So Many Butterflies Etched Dies, Butterfly Sentiments Clear Stamp Set and Geometric Butterfly Stencil. So, without further ado let’s jump right into the step-by-step for how I made them ↓

Therefore, I’d like to start by sharing with you the largest and more dimensional card I made with a shaped butterfly using Butterfly Card Creator Etched Dies. This set includes fourteen dies from which two of them create the large butterfly shaped card that fits in an A7 size envelope. There’s a whole variation about how using this dies, so here I’m sharing my take using this design. Having that said, I went ahead to line up the card base layer die over a large piece of white cardstock and then, I went ahead to run them through my Platinum 6 Die Cutting and Embossing Machine to cut out 2X the card base layer. Next, I went ahead to cut out the same layer 1X out of gold cardstock. Lastly, to complete the card base layers, I went ahead to line up the insert layer over a large piece of white cardstock and then I proceeded to cut it out from it.

Once, I’ve had finished die-cutting all layers for the card base, I’ve gone ahead to turn the bottom layer 180 degrees over my Scoring Board to create two hinges on the top of the wings for the card could open and close. So, to do that, I went ahead to use the standard Teflon bone folder including in Craft Treat Teflon Bone Folder and then, I’ve traced down two scoring lines with it at the 1/2” inch mark. Thus, as soon as I had that step completed, I went ahead to fold down the scoring lines and then, I added strong adhesive to them to get the top layer for the card base adhered over it. By the way, I decided to add texture to the mid-layer of the card base and to the insert layer of it as well using a floral embossing folder. Then, after getting the mid-layer adhered for the card base, I went ahead to create a scoring line in the middle of the gold layer and then, I’ve got it glued down in the center of the card base. Lastly, I repeated the same step to get the insert layer gluing down to the card along with the butterfly body which, I’ve had cut out previously from gold cardstock.

Lastly, after getting the card base assembling completed, I’ve gone ahead to get the right side of it embellished by creating a floral look using the flowers that I’ve had cut out from colored cardstock using a combination of Spellbinders Color Cardstock and TSM Cardstock. Also, by using the dies including in the set. Then for the card sentiment, I used one of the sentiments including in Butterfly Sentiments Clear Stamp Set. Then, to finish it off, I went ahead to glue down here and there some Crystal Confetti to add an extra pop of sparkle to it.

For the second example, I made a clean and simple card yet with a pop-up effect inside of it using a combination of Pop-Up Butterfly Etched Dies to create the inside pop-up effect and Delicate Butterflies Etched Dies to create the dimensional and detailed butterfly for the belly band closure. Besides that, I used Precision Layering A2 A Etched Dies and Precision Layering A2 B Etched Dies to create the gold frame for the card front.

Therefore, I went ahead to create a simple look to the intricate butterfly using the dies and a combination of pink, peach, and gold hues the die only has the shadow and insert layer but, I decided to add a mid-layer for an extra dimensional effect. Then, for the belly band closure, I used translucent vellum and white and gold cardstock for the layered front card panel. Then, to add a pop of sparkle, I used once again some of the crystal sequins that I used in the previous example.

As for the inside of the card, I kept it quite simple by using the same hues that I used for the butterfly over the belly band closure. The pop-up effect it’s easy to follow as the die including in the set creates the scoring lines for you which makes it easier to fold and get the butterfly adhered to it and then to the card. By the way, I’d like to mention that this butterfly has two layer as well, but I decided to add a mid-layer to it for the extra dimension effect. Other than that, you can create many looks by adding floral effects to the inside of the card or use patterned paper and more to add a lots of fun to it. However, in my case because it’s a sympathy card, I decided to keep it as simpler and cleaner it could be by leaving it as is in the images above.

For the third example, I made an even simpler card using the largest die including in So Many Butterflies Etched Dies to create the shaped card in the same way as I did for the first example. This die includes a few nesting butterfly dies to create a layered and dimensional looking butterfly. However, I decided to not to add layers to it because, I wanted to add the geometric effect by using the ink blending technique using ink blending brushes, the same color hues that I use for the previous examples and the Geometric Butterfly Stencil from this collection.

Having that said, I went ahead to get glue down the top layer to the bottom layer of the card base and then, I’ve got glued down as well its body which, I’ve had cut it out from white and gold cardstock. As for the sentiment, I used one of the sentiments including in the stamp set and last but certainly not least, to finish it off, I went ahead to glue down here and there some of the crystal sequins as well.

For the last example, I made a landscaping form design using a mixing of ink blending, die-cutting, stamping and white heat embossing using the stamp, stencil one of the dies including once again in So Many Butterflies Etched Dies that coordinates perfectly with the butterfly images from the stamp set just like the other two smaller dies from the set along with the smaller butterflies stamp images. Therefore, I went ahead to ink up a white card panel using the same hues that I’ve been using for the other examples and the dotted side of the stencil. Then, I went ahead to trim down the edges from it and then, I’ve got mounted its backing with craft foam adhesive to an A2 side folding white card base in a landscaping form.

Then for the large butterfly, I used translucent vellum and white cardstock to add a shadow solid layer. As for the smaller butterfly, I used the butterfly dies including in Butterfly Card Creator Etched Dies. I was planning on using the smaller butterfly on the first example but then, I decided to skip it and use it for this example. To finish the card off, I went ahead to get the butterflies assembled and then, I’ve got them glued down as shown in the image above. Next, I added the card sentiment and then, I glued down here and there some crystal sequins to add the sparkling look.
