Helen & Harry the Hippos Greeting Cards

Helen & Harry The Hippos Greeting Cards

Hello there! On today’s blog I’ll be sharing with you how I made these two cute Hippo greeting cards featuring Helen and Harry the Hippos Stamp & Helen and Harry the Hippos Crafting Dies. By the way these sets are from the new June’s Release by Technique Tuesday. That being said, I’d like to invite you to keep on reading the tutorial. ↓

So, to begin with I started by stamping in a piece of white cardstock with embossing ink the two Hippos included in the stamp set because I was going to gold heat embossing them. Along with the hippos, I also stamped, and gold heat embossed a little flower and the little bird which by the way are also included in the stamp set. Once they were heat embossed, I used the coordinated dies to die-cut the hippos, the flower, and the bird. As soon as all the die-cutting was done, I slightly color each of the image just to add a little shadow with T0 for the hippos, Y00 for the bird, and R00 for the hippo’s cheeks. Right after I was done coloring, I stamped, and gold heat embossed two of the sentiments from the stamp set which right after the heat embossing I ran through the die-cutting machine along with the Oval & Rectangle Stitched Labels Crafting Dies to create the sentiments for both cards. Lastly, I stamped, and gold heat embossed the balloons from the Love is in the Air Stamp Set in a piece of white cardstock as I was planning to make a birthday card. As, for the balloons I gave them a little pop of color I used R00 Copic Marker, and I fussy-cut it out of the white cardstock. Finally, after all of the previous steps were completed I started the card layouts.

For the first card panel I trimmed a 6X6 patterned paper to a W3 3/4’’ X H 5.25’’ and I adhered the backed of it to a white card panel that measured W4.0’’X H 5 1/4’’ with double-sided tape. Next, I adhered the sentiment on one of the sides of the card panel with double-sided tape. Then for the hippo I decided to run through the die-cutting machine the coordinated die to die-cut the hippo but this time out of fun foam because I wanted a little bit of dimension. As soon as the die-cutting fun foam was done I adhered the pieces together, and I adhered it to the card panel with liquid glue. Lastly, I adhered the little bird in the back on the hippo with foam mounting tape, and I tucked in the balloons inside the hippo’s mouth, for an extra dimension I adhered the backed of each heart balloon with foam mounting tape to the card panel. Once the card panel was done I set it aside to create the second card panel.

For the second card panel, I adhered with double-sided a leftover piece from the same patterned to a white card panel that measured W 4.0 X H 5 1/4’’ as you can see in the picture above. The leftover patterned piece measured W 2.0’’ X H 5.1/4’’. To add a little gold detail to the card panel, I wrapped around a few times gold thread in each of the sides of the patterned piece. Next, I adhered the hippo to the card panel with liquid glue (By the way, I also die-cut out fun foam the hippo the same as the previous example.) Then, I adhered the little flower that I had previously die-cut it and curl up to one of the hippo’s ear as you can see in the picture above. For an extra little touch, I adhered in the center of the flower a little sparkly jewel. Last but certainly not least, I adhered the sentiment to the card panel with double-sided tape.

Finally, to finish both cards off, I adhered each of the card panels to an A2 side folding white card base with foam mounting tape, and I adhered gold sequins here and there for an extra gold accent.
