Spellbinders MAR-20 Small Die of the Month Kit ∣ Inspiration Cards

Happy Friday, friends! It’s time to share these clean and simple, yet shiny What’s Up? cards that, I’ve created with the new; March-20 Small Die of the Month called “24th Carrot” by Spellbinders. So, without further ado, let’s jump to the step by step on how to make them ↓

To begin with, I started by selecting 2 pattern designs from the “Feeling Hoppy” paper pad included in the MAR-20 Card Kit of the Month also by Spellbinders. Next, I adhered the backing of each patterned papers with double-sided tape to 2-A2 white card panels, this step wasn’t necessary but, because the papers from the paper pad are on the thin side, I wanted to reinforce their weight. So therefore, once they were adhered to the panels, I trimmed the edges off from each of the card panels with the paper trimmer to H 5.0’’x W 3-3/4’’ and, I adhered them down with double-sided tape to 2-Top folding white card bases. Lastly, after finishing the card bases off, I set them aside, and I started the layering for each card.

For the first card, I decided to create a shaker carrot. So… to create the carrot first; I ran through my Platinum 6 Die Cutting and Embossing Machine the leaves die to die-cut them 6X out of Rose Gold glitter cardstock. Second; I ran through the die-cutting machine the carrot dies to die-cut it 1X out pale blush color cardstock, 1X out white cardstock, 1X out foam fun, and 1X out of acetate.

Once, I had all die-cutting pieces done, I glued down with liquid glue 3 glittery leaves to the top part of the white carrot die-cutting followed for the other 3 which, I stacked over the other 3 with little pieces of foam mounting tape for a 3D dimension look. Right after that, I added liquid glue to the perimeter, and I adhered the fun foam die-cutting. This die is designed to cut the center piece out from the carrot therefore, it creates a beautiful line embossed pattern carrot frame which, is a perfect open space to add any element like for example; the 2 little bunnies or the flowers which create the dies included in the die set, or even better a wonderful open space for a shaker carrot just like I did on today’s example. So, at this point, I turned down the carrot frame with the glittery leaves facing down, and I added liquid glue to the inner part of the frame. Next, I waited a few seconds for the glue to get tacky, and right after that, I inserted the acetate die-cutting pieces pushing it all the way down and holding it until the edges were adhered to the tacky glue. Once, that my acetate was adhered to the frame, I flipped it over, and I adhered with liquid glue over it the last layer which, was the Pale Blush die-cutting. Lastly, I brought to my crafting mat the card base with the carrots pattern and I added a few Crystal Confetti as my shaker elements right after, I finished off the layering by adhering the carrot to the card. As my last step, I ran through the die-cutting machine the 2-word dies included in the set to die-cut them 1X out of the same glitter cardstock that I used for the leaves, and 1X out of white cardstock. To finish the card off, I stacked the die-cutting words, and I adhered them with liquid glue to the card (as shown in the image above).

For the second card, I ran through the die-cutting machine 6X the carrot leaves to die-cut them out mint color cardstock. Also, I ran through the die-cutting machine 3X the die included in the set which, die-cut 4 different little branches to die-cut them out of the same mint color cardstock. Once, I had the greenery die-cutting pieces done I set them aside, and I ran through the die-cutting machine the die that die-cut the little flowers to die-cut them out of the Rose glitter cardstock. Then, I ran through the die-cutting machine the dies that die-cut the bunnies to die-cut them out of white cardstock. Lastly, I ran through the die-cutting machine the die that, die-cut the inner pieces for the ears to die-cut them out of the same Blush color cardstock that, I have used for the carrot on the previous example. To finish the die-cutting process off, I ran once again the word dies to die-cut them out of gold cardstock.

To assemble the card first; I foam mounted the center of a rectangle that I had previously foiled on white cardstock. Second; I tucked in around the rectangle the greenery pieces creating a rectangle wreath if you will. Third; I glued down the inner pieces of the ears with liquid glue along with a piece of black cardstock and a white cardstock which, I had colored with a pink market to create the eyes and noses. Fourth; I added a little color to the edges of the die-cutting bunnies by inking it up them with Antique Linen Distress Oxide Ink. Last but not least, I foam mounted the bunnies to the bottom part of the rectangle wreath, and I glued down the glittery flowers around the greenery and to the ears for a girly look. To finish the card off, I glued down with liquid glue the die-cutting What’s Up? word, and I tucked in a branch inside the partial die-cutting legs from one of the bunnies. As finishing touches, I glued down with liquid glue 3 gems to the card, and I added a white dot to the black eyes using a white gel pen. Also, I added glossy accent to the noses and eyes for a glossy and shiny dimensional look.
